2016 Free Entrance Days at National Parks

Utah features many incredible National Parks, and the St. George area is host to many of them. The entrance fee is well worth it — there’s no other place in the world with the beautiful views and landscapes that you can see in The Beehive State. Though the fees are rather reasonable, if you time your visit well you can get into Utah’s National Parks at no cost by going on a free entrance day.

These select times of the year allow access to St. George’s National Parks to more visitors. If you’re vacationing on a budget, this option can’t be beat.

The National Park Service’s free days include entrance to popular Utah sites such as Arches National Park, Bryce Canyon, and Zion National Park. The latter has a wealth of activities from which to choose, including hiking, shuttle tours, the Zion Human History Museum, and some excellent dining options. All of Utah’s parks are great for families, but Zion National Park is especially suitable for visitors with young children and children of varying age groups. If you want to get an intimate view of the landscape that makes Utah famous, head to Arches National Park, home of the iconic Delicate Arch. The photographer’s favorite is just one of the many stone features here, and the sunsets in Arches National Park are breathtaking.

If you’re planning to visit St. George in 2016, here are the entrance fee-free days for the year:

  • January 18th, Martin Luther King Jr. Day
  • April 16th through 24th, National Park Week
  • August 25th through 28th, National Park Service Birthday
  • September 24th, National Public Lands Day
  • November 11th, Veterans Day

As many of the free entrance days fall on federal holidays, that may make it easier to get away with your family to come see Utah’s National Parks. Keep in mind that the fee waiver includes general entrance, transportation entrance, and commercial tour fees, but you’ll still need to pay for camping, concessions, private tours, site reservations, and all other optional services. For a getaway that’s fun, educational, and unforgettable, be sure to visit St. George during a fee-free National Park day.
