St. George, Utah is not only filled with awe-inspiring natural sights, it also has a vibrant cultural and performing arts community. One of the jewels of the area’s performing arts scene is the Tuacahn Amphitheater, which is located less than 20 minutes away in Ivins. The Tuacahn puts on concerts, shows, and musicals year round, but one of the most anticipated events at the venue is during the winter season: Christmas In The Canyon. If you’re looking for a way to get into the holiday spirit and share a memorable evening with family and friends, you won’t want to miss this event.
Christmas In The Canyon has become a tradition for many in the local community, and it’s unlike any other event that the Tuacahn Amphitheater hosts during other parts of the year. The venue is strung with beautiful light displays and holiday music fills the plaza. There are several components to Christmas In The Canyon, including a gift and concessions gallery, train ride and other family activities, and The Live Nativity.
The Live Nativity is a retelling of the birth of Jesus Christ by actors on the Tuacahn Amphitheater stage. It occurs at 7:00pm and 8:00pm each night that Christmas In The Canyon is being held. The cost to see the performance is $2 per person or $15 per family up to ten people. In addition to the wonderful volunteer actors, The Live Nativity features camels and other animals to make the setting even more realistic.
The Live Nativity is the only part of Christmas In The Canyon that comes with a fee as admission to the rest of the event is free to the public. Some of the fun activities include rides on the Old Salty Train and character appearances. In the Gift Gallery attendees will find tasty treats, hot chocolate, and other bites along with booths from artisan vendors. Those who haven’t gotten their holiday shopping done will find plenty for everyone on their list.
In 2016, Christmas In The Canyon takes place every Monday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night from November 25th through December 23rd. This is a great opportunity to continue an old tradition or start a new one.
