Family Golf Tournament

The perfect family reunion strikes a balance between structured and unstructured time. There should be a schedule, but remember, your family needs time to relax, talk, and just decompress. Planning a family golf tournament is one way to strike this balance with one activity. While golfing is structured active, there is also a considerable amount of downtime during which you can chat and relax. This is why planning a golf tournament for your family reunion is sure to please everyone, no matter their skill set. Here are a few suggestions.

There are plenty of ways to orchestrate a family tournament from the most professional to the most amateur. You could play through individually or divide into teams. Placing a wager always makes things more interesting. If your family is less experienced, you may want to divide into teams and play the best ball or do a scramble. Here are a few other suggestions on ways to make the tournament more interesting.

Considering summer heat, you will want to plan your tournament for early in the morning. I suggest making a reservation in advance to ensure your preferred time. If your family groans about getting up too early, remind them that you’re on vacation and can nap when you’re done! However you do it, I strongly suggest avoiding the afternoon hours when summer temperatures rise to above 100 degrees in southern Utah.

Sand Hollow Golf Course

St. George hosts a number of golf courses, but we suggest Sand Hollow. The Sand Hollow 18-hole, 7,000 golf course opened in 2008 and is a championship par-72 course (more info here). With 5 tees per hole, each member of your family can enjoy the game regardless of their experience. They even have a par-3 “Wee Course” for young ones of those wanting to make their visit short. Not to mention the view! Imagine gazing out across the red rocks of southern Utah while golfing the morning away. Truly breathtaking. And at a short distance from Coral Springs Resort, the convenience can’t be beat. See more reviews here. Book a tee time here.
