Restaurant Review: Irmita’s Mexican Grill

St. George is a beautiful gem in southwest Utah that has abundant natural sights, the opportunity for outdoor excursions, a performing arts and theater scene, and some wonderful restaurants. The latter is one of the most surprising things about the city — you’ll find just about any type of cuisine that you can think of. While Utah may not seem like it would have good Mexican food, it definitely does. One must-try eatery is Irmita’s, which not only serves up delicious food but is also a popular local hangout spot.

Once you walk inside the restaurant, you’ll notice Irmita’s vibrant decor comprised of greens, yellow hues, and plenty of rustic touches. The vibe is very casual, and the staff are some of the friendliest and most welcoming in town. Open up the menu, and you’ll find a host of authentic Mexican dishes as well as standard Tex-Mex favorites such as burritos, tacos, tortas, and mulitas, which is a stuffed sandwich that’s like a quesadilla taken to another level.

If you get stuck on what to try, a well loved favorite at Irmita’s is their fried pork burritos and crispy pork tacos. Each dish is full of flavor, well prepared, and served with sides that will guarantee you leave the table satisfied. Their hearty sandwiches, called tortas, are also a great choice that even kids will love. To top off your meal, don’t miss the salsa bar that’s set to the side of the restaurant. The heat levels range from very mild to super hot, and each is fresh and house made at the restaurant.

If you’re looking to save a bit while dining out in St. George, Irmita’s has daily specials that cost less than $7. The restaurant offers carryout service, which is handy if you need to eat on the run. You can walk in to eat without a reservation as well, and this is one of the better restaurants to visit if you have a group or family coming along. For excellent Mexican fare at a very reasonable price, don’t miss the chance to dine at Irmita’s the next time you’re in St. George.
